| Cumberland, MD 7/9/12 - The Western Maryland Railway Lives: after being brought home to WM rails in authentically restored paint, this pair of former Western Maryland SD's made a test run up the former WM Connellsville Subdivision. The Western Maryland Scenic Railway's GP-30 was used to switch the engines around the Cumberland station tracks. But for a few minor details--a GP-30 type that the WM never owned and the second station platform shelter that was removed at the end of the steam era--this image might look exactly like many instances in the late 1960's where this pair of locomotives would have passed this very spot in their revenue service. Managing Partner of the George's Creek Railway who owns these engines, Gerald Altizer, stands with his daughter as the locomotives are prepared for their run up the hill. |
