Remarks & Notes
L&N homemade J2-A Mike (built at South Louisville Shops--1918) 1462 is working helper duty at Baileys, KY (or Bailey's Switch as it's also called) about 1949. This hill required a round-the-clock helper during the steam era to shove Loyall to Corbin tonnage trains over the top of Emanuel Hill. The helper's crew is taking water between shoves. Despite the fact an L&N company photographer is on site, the fireman is vigilant to turn off the stand pipe as soon as the tank is full---lest he get his work boots soggy.

Roundhouses, waiting rooms, offices, platforms, carpeted aisles, and other places. One catches these at their trade, both on and off the clock.
