| Remarks & Notes |
| The mangled remnants of three LMX B39's await their fate at Sprague, Washington in the aftermath of a horrendous derailment that saw the locomotives and most of the 9000-ton train trailing them pile up in a run-away derailment at Sprague's east switch a few days earlier. The railroad placed the blame for the accident on a transient riding near the head end who allegedly turned the angle cock, preventing air brakes from working on most of the train. Dynamic brakes alone weren't enough to hold back the train on the descending grade from Fishtrap, and the train rocketed down the grade before derailing at Sprague's east switch at over 80 miles per hour. The three crew members on the head end were banged up, but survived. |
