| Remarks & Notes |
| Back in 1984, I did a fair bit of canoeing. On an overnight trip on the South Branch of the Potomac River, we decided to spend the night under the SBVR Sycamore Bridge. While building a campfire, we heard the faint sound of an EMD 567. Could it be? At this point in time the SBVR was a slow operation, very slow. The track was a mess and anything over 10 MPH would have been foolish. We listened for what seem to be forever, as the train made its was up through the "Trough." Light was fading fast. All I could to was hold the camera steady and pray. I wish the image had been better, but it would have to do. As information, in a little over a year, this Sycamore Bridge would be gone, wiped away in a terrible flood that also took away much of the SBVR. Fortunately, the SBVR and Sycamore Bridge were rebuilt. In hindsight, it was probably the best thing that ever happened to the SBVR. Work was done in a couple years, that without the flood, likely would have taken decades. |
