| Remarks & Notes |
| Three EMD four-axles are keeping the slack bunched on the rear of Second 256 this July afternoon in 1984. The rear unit--a GP35 riding on trade-in Alco trucks--carries two red flags, as well as illuminated red classification lights (or "markers" in this particular case, since it's the rear of a train rather than the front). At the time, this was still train order/timetable territory, and Rule 99 with its associated requirements for marking the rear of a train occupying the main track were still in place. Also in compliance with division instructions at the time, the conductor and flagman of the coal train had temporarily relocated to the middle unit, since it was forbidden for a caboose being pushed to be occupied. |
