Essex Depot - Home of Connecticut's Valley Railroad. After hauling four scheduled excursions on this beautiful Sunday in May, NH 3025 brings the last of them to the deserted platform at Essex Depot, the line's home base. The structure you see was built in 1892 as a freight station on the original Valley Railroad. Back in the day, there was also a dedicated passenger terminal located a hundred or so feet to the north, but that building has been long since removed. The old freight house has been refurbished and now houses the offices of the Valley Railroad as well as the line's gift shop and restrooms. The main line runs directly in front of the platform and is the track being used by the arriving train. The track closer to the camera is a passing siding and is regularly used for running the locomotives from one end of the consist to the other.
