Remarks & Notes
A westbound PC ore drag was struggling upgrade east of Horseshoe Curve on July 18, 1975 as the cab on an eastbound trailer train passes in the distance. To say he was struggling is an understatement. The choice of four 4-axle units for an ore drag was probably a bad decision from the start. In addition, the lead unit, GP40 No. 3180, was off line with a problem of some sort. There were four 6-axle EMDs shoving hard on the rear. If I recall correctly, he made it around Horseshoe Curve, but hung up between there and MG Tower. A light helper was sent downgrade to couple to the head end to get him over the hill.
