Remarks & Notes |
The cog wheel railway in Budapest was opened in 1874, and was built to Riggenbach's cog-wheel system. The standard gauge single track railway is 3.7km and rises over 325 metres. The terminal point was built at the present Városmajor. It was operated by steam until 1929, when it was electrified. The current trains were built in 1973. Here we an old axle on display at the station at the bottom of the hill. It shows the rack and pinion arrangement and the belt pulleys. |
