| UP 8520 leads a coal train out of Oak Well Canyon and around Skyler's Curve as it nears the small Mormon community of Barclay. Skyler's Curve gets it's name from Skyler Hafen, a young boy who died several years ago. His grave and a small memorial are trackside at this location, and can be seen just below the 4th car of this train. Skyler's curve is also noteworthy as it's the location of the MP 480 line change undertaken in 1982. This line change created the massive cuts in the background, and replaced 20 MPH curves with 40 MPH curves, allowing the hotshots of the day to trim precious minutes from their journey. |
