This was the north portal of the 520 foot tunnel the DW&P railroad constructed at M.P. 7.4 through Ely's Peak in far west Duluth as part of their Hill Line which took them into and out of downtown Duluth. The line was abandoned and retired on December 14th, 1984 when the State of Minnesota wanted to construct the I-35 freeway and the DW&P moved their yard operations to the current site at Pokegama, Wisconsin |
