Remarks & Notes
Welcome to the stockyard! A pair of EMD TR5 (Transfer) 'cow and calf' switchers work the north end of UP's Provo Yard. Pairs of EMD TR5s, built in 1951, were assigned to work at Provo during much of the 60s, 70s, and early 80s to drag heavy ore and coal trains to Geneva Works and coil steel and pipe trains back to Provo. Overall, the TR5s were a rare breed, with EMD producing only 10 of the cabbed A units and 12 of the B's. The A and B units produced 1200 HP each and were connected via a draw bar making them semi permanent sets. UP 1875 & 1874 were set up for multiple unit operation, making for occasional doubleheaded runs to Geneva and return when tonnage levels were extra high.
