| Rail Runner train #517 heads downgrade through Waldo Canyon en route from Santa Fe to Belen. The train is mid-way between the NM Route 599 and Kewa stations and is negotiating the most spectacular part of the newly contructed Santa Fe extension. The line through Waldo Canyon features huge cut and fill work along with numerous curves and a steep 3% grade. About a mile ahead of the train lies CP Madrid, where the Rail Runner will join the original ATSF Raton Pass mainline for a fast run west through the Galisteo Creek and Rio Grande River valleys. |
