An eastbound caboose light movement was arriving at Cumberland, MD on a cold Nov. 28, 1977, led by GP30 No. 6960. The light movement could have been because at the moment, the B&O was effectively plugged. The night before they had a huge derailment at Orleans Road, WV on the Cumberland Subdivision, complete with a hazardous materials release. We had planned on a nice weekend shooting on the Magnolia Cut Off until we encountered the blocked road and carnage at Orleans Road. Time for a change of plans. We headed for Altoona, PA and some Conrail action, stopping by Cumberland on the way.
