Remarks & Notes
Built by Electro Motive-Division in February 1990, this EMD SD60M was delivered to the Burlington Northern Railroad as BN 9227. This was one of 100 units BN ordered from EMD to be used in their Powder River Coal Service out of Wyoming, before the SD70MACs started to show up 4 years later. When delivered, these units originally had strobe lights before being outfitted with ditch lights in the mid 90s. After the BN/ATSF merger in 1996, the unit was later then patched to BNSF 9227 for quite several years. Once orders were made to EMD of the brand new SD70ACes, BNSF was force to renumber their SD60Ms into the 8100 series to accommodate the locomotives on their roster. Today, BNSF uses these locomotives in all kinds of service from Intermodal, Merchandise, and even Locals.
