| This steel under frame caboose was built for the DM&IR RR in 1944 and was retired in the late 1970’s because of the introduction of all steel cars. It was purchased by Reserve Mining Co. and remodeled into a Safety Car and was used as a meeting room to present safety meetings to Railroad Dept. employees. It was moved between Babbitt , Silver Bay and Northshore Jct. on a weekly schedule. The car was furnished as a classroom and was provided with audio-visual equipment. In 1995 Northshore Mining donated the car to the City of Babbitt and moved it to it’s present location at the entrance to town. |
