Remarks & Notes
Since Union Pacific ended passenger service on its Kansas Pacific mainline acrosss Central Kansas and eastern Colorado with the coming of Amtrak, passenger trains have been few and far between--but with the nearly-dormant route about to see a rebuilding for use in the late 1990s, Union Pacific sent a passenger excursion from Denver to Cheyenne Wells and return in October 994--A-B-A E-units, as you'd expect, with as many domes than the California Zephyr in its heyday--five, to be exact. Headed to Cheyenne Wells, the train curves through Kit Carson; after a picnic lunch, the train will head back to Denver on the stick rail, its passengers enjoying a ferocious thunderstorm near Limon.
