| Remarks & Notes |
| Despite its imminent bankruptcy, Milwaukee Road in the west still looked like a viable operation into the spring of 1979, when we see the remnants of the old Thunderhawk, train #201, rocking along a couple miles east of the east switch at Beverly, four locotrol-equipped SD40-2's and an SW1200 bound for work at Tacoma leading 71 cars along the relatively lush Crab Creek marshes, one of the few naturally occuring sources of water in this desert near the Saddle Mountains. The trackage isn't all it should be, however, stick rail, splintering ties and pit run sand, flanked by stripped catenary poles remaining seven years after box motors operated their last train. In 10 months, the railroad would be gone. |
