For fans of the venerable Rio Grande Zephyr, July 1, 1979 was a great day to be at trackside. On that day, EMD F9A 5771 made its first eastward journey from Salt Lake City to Denver wearing shiny Imron paint and a newly rebuilt 567 motor. Train #18 is photographed beneath 10,551 ft. Mt. Loafer just east of the Rio Xover in Spanish Fork Canyon.
