| After the 'Jacobite' season has concluded, locomotives and stock return from their temporary 'home' at Fort William to their base 250 miles south at Carnforth in Lancashire. The most scenic viaducts on this section of the West Highland route are those located in the famous Horsehoe Curve. After risking life and limb to ford a raging stream I arrived (very, very wet) at my chosen viewpoint. Here are the Black Fives crossing the first viaduct, the mist-shrouded valley leading to Beinn Dorain 1076m (3530ft) presents a moody backdrop. |
