Remarks & Notes
Here's an oddball new to RP. The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is best known as the home of the famous "General" 4-4-0 which was hijacked here by Union troops during the Civil War when the location was still known as Big Shanty. However, another fascinating area of the museum chronicles the history of the Glover Locomotive and Machine Works of Marietta GA. This company manufactured industrial steam locos during the first half of the 1900s and two 0-4-0T examples are housed in the museum. Little #3 has quite an interesting history. The 40 inch gauge tank was built in 1926 for the Splint Jellico Coal Co. Unfortunately, it seems Glover got many of their sales by underbidding other manufacturers and selling to companies that were not financially very sound. Like in numerous other cases, #3's buyers could not make their payments, and Glover repossessed her - pulling her to the nearest common carrier with mules. She returned to the factory in Marietta where she sat and rusted away after the company's closing in the 1950s until the 2000s when the museum rescued her and the Glover Works were razed. Seen to the right of #3 is another disassembled 0-4-0T (36 inch gauge) which had set unsold in the factory 50 years after it closed!
