Foggy East Broad Top: Leaving the House. EBT #15 backs out of the company's 8-stall, brick roundhouse and onto the turntable to begin its working day. Shortly, the shop and locomotive crews will combine their efforts to rotate the engine onto the Enginehouse Track that will give her access to the servicing area behind the photographer and later, the South Yard, where she'll switch onto the main line. The roundhouse that you see here has been the home of the line's narrow gauge power since 1874. It was originally built as a 4-stall building, but was later upgraded to 6, and finally 8-stalls, reaching its current configuration around 1917. The turntable was designed as an air-powered machine, although historically (and currently), it was generally turned by hand, using beefy push-poles. It was acquired second-hand from the New York Central Railroad and cut down to narrow gauge dimensions before being installed in the pit in Orbisonia.
