Remarks & Notes
In this photo we see a detoured stack train slowly grinding it's way through the Feather River Canyon. The shadows have set in for the night and it is about to get really cold, but that doesn't stop this busy line. The detoured trains and the normal daily traffic made this a very busy day for dispatcher 57. Soon after this train passes through the Honeymoon Tunnels, it will be meeting an eastbound BNSF. Since November of 2009, the stack trains have been routed via Donner Pass. Only rarely when something goes wrong on Donner Pass will you see the stack trains back on the original Western Pacific route. I got lucky as I was heading up for the Feather River Express and these detours just seem to fall right in front of me.
