| The Southern yard crew is returning from a transfer run of empty hoppers to the Interstate at Andover. The photo was taken from the platform of a bay window cab beside the yard office. That device along the inside of the left rail is an old broken flange detector---an early example of a defect detector. The unit displayed any problems on a panel inside the operator's bay in the yard office. |
