It might be in the 1920’s on the “PO-Corrèze” railroad, or in the 1950’s on the SNCF meter gauge lines in the Correze département (Limousin region of France). But the picture was shot in 2011 in the Haute-Loire département (Auvergne region of France), on the tourist railroad “Voies Ferrées du Velay”, between Dunières and Saint-Agrève. The engine is a Mallet 0-4-4-0T built by Blanc-Misseron in 1906 for the PO-Corrèze.
The PO Corrèze (POC) was a meter-gauge railway in the Corrèze department in central France. The concession was granted to the Chemin de Fer de Paris à Orléans (PO). The centre of the railway was at Tulle, where there was a connection with the PO – later SNCF - standard gauge line. It was opened in 1904, closed to passengers on 3 November 1960, and to freight on 31 May 1970.
This picture is representative of the many local – or “secondary” – lines that went almost everywhere in rural France.
