Day 4 - Bennett or bust! With the morning sunrise just over an hour old, the White Pass Rotary Fleet leaves Fraser Station for Bennett, to finish the 2011 spring clearing of the line. The plowing operation had been planned to require 3 days and that plan very nearly succeeded. In the late afternoon on Day 3, the Rotary Fleet was running the final leg from Log Cabin to Bennett when deeper than anticipated snow was encountered. Rotary #1 began to rapidly deplete its water supply and with barely 2 miles to go to its final destination at Bennett Station, Railroad Superintendent Ed Hanousek had to call a halt to the operation. With no water available at Bennett and his crews nearly out of duty day, the best course of action was to retreat back to Fraser and leave the trains there for the night. The crews would be taken back to Skagway by bus and return on the morning of this 4th day to finish the plowing and turn their attention toward preparing for the tourist season, which would begin just a week later.
