Denver & Rio Grande 2-8-0 No. 583 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September, 1890. She was renumbered as D&RGW 683, Class C-28, in 1924 and was sold to the San Luis Valley Southern RR 103 in 1947. After she was retired she went to the Colorado RR Museum in Golden, Colorado in 1962 and was restored to her original name and number. This locomotive is the only surviving standard gauge Rio Grande steam locomotive. This image shows D&RG 583 in front of the Museum building, a replica of a 1880s-style depot.
