East Fork of the Skagway River - Bridge 5A. On the way up the mountain each day, our White Pass Chase Train crew made it a point to stop at several scenic vistas, to allow us to photograph the Rotary Fleet clawing its way up the mountain. One nice little spot was around MP 7, where photographers could look down in the valley from the passenger car platforms and see the plow train crossing the East Fork of the Skagway River at Bridge 5A. One couldn't help but notice the contrast between the complete lack of snow here, just outside Skagway, and the conditions at White Pass just 15 miles further to the north, where the drifts literally towered over the trains.
