Abandoned far from home. These two ex Missouri Pacific cabooses were purchased several decades ago by a local contractor who wanted to use them as office space. The plan fell through after it was found that the difficulty of removing the interior bulkheads was impractical. However, the boxcar (heritage unknown) is still used for storage. With this spur's connection to the LIRR now gone, they continue to sit there as nature begins to take its toll.
Have you ever watched cabooses, enjoyed their uniqueness, wondered about the men inside, or the jobs they do? Once an everyday sight on the rails, they have decreased in numbers, yet they are a very important part of railroad history.
