The bridge over the east end of the N&W yard at Crewe, Va was an interesting place to watch trains. Back in 1977, it still had a lot of "personality" about it. Switch tenders were still employed to handle the switches and shacks still existed for them and the yard crews. An eastbound coal drag was making its double with GP9 No. 653 and two GP18s.

i was born in virginia in 1972. when i think of railroads that shaped the commonwealth. i think of railroads like, SCL, N&W and southern. this is a tribute to those wonderful days gone by and for those who remember it well.
