Remarks & Notes
A CNJ survivor in Newark, NJ! The Central Railroad of New Jersey had a modest station located in the heart of downtown Newark, NJ. It partially survives to this day, located next door to "Lovely Nails". Behind the facade, a set of platforms, 10 tracks and a small freight house were once located as seen in this schematic (here). Located about a block away from the mighty PRR's Newark Penn Station (which currently serves Amtrak, NJT and PATH), the station also served as a gateway to both the B&O (until 1958) and the Reading Railroad (until 1967). At one time, the signage for both those railraod's could be seen adorning the building as seen (here) in an old photo. Fortunately, this station is now listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the state's Historic Sites and there are plans drawn up to use the station as an entrance to the Prudential Center located behind. Take a look inside here.
