A bright moon illuminates the struggle of machine against the mountain. In this case, the mountain won. With two units on the front and a single DPU on the rear, this train could not make it up the hill and came to a stop outside the tunnel. The crew had to wait over two hours for a three unit pusher set to come from up from Provo and start the battle all over. While waiting, the California Zephyr came through the left bore to help illuminate the scene.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
