Vegetation control was never a top priority on Southern's Manassas-Harrisonburg Branch. At times it seemed like the weed spray train made its appearance about the same time as the first frost in the fall. On June 9, 1972, southbound local freight No. 35 slowly passes through the weeds in Edinburg, VA, powered by GP38 No. 2792.
