Remarks & Notes
This was my first time exploring the heart of downtown Baltimore and the land of the late great B&O. I had always heard of this magical place where the Royal Blue once cooled her heals with the majestic name of Mount Royal Station. But I had no idea how fabulous it would be until I finally found it. As splendid as the 1896 E. Francis Baldwin designed building itself was, I found myself drawn to the train shed out back, remarkable if only for the fact that it too has been splendidly restored and preserved for eternity. While the great B&O flyers of yore are but a memory the mainline beneath the wrought iron arches still trembles to the weight of dozens of freights daily. This is the CSXT's key north south eastern seaboard artery and this westbound train can be seen holding the mainline at milepost BAK 94.6 on the Baltimore Terminal Sub. To her right is the the 4600 ft North Ave siding and immediately after passing beneath the train shed she will plunge into the east (north) portal of the 1.4 mile long Howard St. Tunnel.
