Remarks & Notes |
A 1955 GMD veteran of CN heritage squeezes through the steep rock cut at the Gateway approaching MP 85 (from Portland ) and the top of the grade on the former Maine Central Mountain Sub. During Railfan's Weekend in 2008 a future life pulling the Pan Am business train around New England was simply unfathomable for Conway Scenic's venerable "sisters." The twin FP9s were purchased from VIA rail for Conway Scenic's expanded operations over some 27 miles of the former Maine Central up through Crawford Notch that began in 1995. They served faithfully for nearly a decade and a half before being supplanted by more modern (but arguably more historically significant) power. All that's far in the future, though on this warm last day of summer in the Granite State. |
