The era had ended for one item in this photo, possibly two. The main purpose for the water plug had ended years earlier. By this time U25C No. 1505 was living on borrowed time. New power was arriving and the U25Cs and six axle Alcos were being retired if they suffered any serious problems. Earlier in the day, No. 1505 had suffered a failure of some sort and was shoved, cold and dead in a little used track in the engine terminal. I don't know if it ever pulled another revenue ton, but I have my doubts.
