| Remarks & Notes |
| In 1986, there were still many elements of "classic" Union Pacific to be found in the mountains of Utah on the Weber Canyon mainline: left hand running, center sidings, "three dot" track occupancy indicators, even GP30s. On a spring morning, the eastbound Park City Local stops to switch the cement plant at Devils Slide, brakeman and conductor at the ready. Apparently no eastbound traffic is near and the dispatcher is allowing the local to leave the rear of their train on the mainline; the local's three GP30s will pull empty cement hoppers and a few coal loads over the diverging track to the right into the plant, around a half-mile back and across the Weber River. Then, the train will continue to Echo, where it will depart the mainline en route to the phosphate load-out at Phoston. |
