Remarks & Notes |
Plagued by seasonal power shortages the Soo normally had leased power roaming the system in the dead of winter. Regrettably that meant dealing dealing with clouds and low light most of the time photographically. The results were often less than satisfactory especially when dealing with Kodachrome. This shot has leased LS&I 2300 leading Soo 558 on an Extra heading toward Marquette with 34 cars. White flags were uncommon on Soo trains in Upper Michigan in the 70's and my guess is 2300 came off the LS&I flying the flags and as all trains on the Marquette line operated as extras at the time no one bothered to take them down. The units had spent the previous 12 hours idling away at Trout Lake while the crew took rest and were covered in frost and ice. |
