Remarks & Notes
The once mighty Reading Railroad... In 1893 the Reading Company, then known as the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, built a large terminal in the heart of Philadelphia to better compete with the PRR and even the B&O, both of which had just recently built large and impressive depots within the city. Here we see segment of a quadruple track mainline leading North out of the city from the Reading Terminal. These tracks once hosted type="text/css">.different-text-color { color: darkgreen; }Camelbacks, type="text/css">.different-text-color { color: darkgreen; }Blueliners, type="text/css">.different-text-color { color: darkgreen; }FP7's and even the famous streamlined steam powered type="text/css"> .different-text-color { color: darkgreen; } Reading Crusader which ran direct from Philly to NY (via Jersey City and it's ferry operations). Imagine - a second 4 track main from Philly to NY competing with the PRR to connect the then two largest cities in the US. To the left are former Reading Company offices and on the right sits the abandoned Spring Garden Station.
