Director's Mixed Train. Freight and mixed trains are a regular feature at the WW&F Annual Picnic in August. The 2010 event was no exception, as the museum offered a Director's Mixed Train at 8AM sharp on Sunday. As with all trains at this event, Wiscasset & Quebec Coach #3 was featured, to celebrate its recent purchase from the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum in Portland. This morning's train also featured a flat with a fairly heavy load of rail on it. While that loads looks pretty innocuous in this picture, the crew of #10 reported that the southbound climb to Alna Center for the run-by you see here, taxed the little 12-tonner to her limit! Viewers will note the Brakeman standing on the second flat. These narrow gauge trains do not have air brakes. Stopping the train requires careful crew coordination through hand signals and a deft touch on the part of the roving Brakeman as he winds the brake wheels back in the consist.
