| The fireman has dumped 2317's fire and is now washing the hopper making sure all the ash has been removed. This procedure has been performed on 2317 every working day for years but there is a difference this time. She is now due for her FRA mandated overhaul and it is not known exactly when her whistle will again play off Scranton's mountains. I myself missed the real steam era and all the personal experience of that transition. But knowing the respect Steamtown's crews have for this engine, I now understand the regret men of the past and of today have felt as they put down a beloved friend. |
