| Tiny Oswell? Nobody seems to know who he was (or still is), but the engine itself is somewhat famous. D&NE 2-8-0 No. 27 was one of the last steam locomotives to operate in freight service in Minnesota, not being retired until 1964. Since 1965 the ex-DM&IR Consol has slumbered in relative obscurity at the Carlton County Fair Grounds in Barnum, where this photo was taken in June 2010. The overhead shelter that covers No. 27 is being enclosed on one side and will be used for storage purposes. |
