Remarks & Notes
A nightmare for Guilford as this track was out of service for a few days and what trains they could detour went on commuter priority tracks which led into Boston and had to use them mainly at night. They also couldn't send any loaded coal trains (lct's) or high cube cars so lct's backed up and many cars had to be switched out heading either east or west before going down into Boston. With two major rain storms only days apart, flooding was widespread across the northeast. They actually walked trains over the water soaked rails the next day. Normally coal trains would travel from Ayer just west of here and then through CPF312 and then east to North Chelmsford before heading north into NH on their way to the Bow Plant and the empties in reverse order but all loaded coal trains were sprinkled west of Ayer and one empty did detour through Boston. All freights from and to Maine had to be detoured through Boston with their high cube cars on sidings on each side of this water. The flooding was so bad here it washed out the road as a 4' pipe collapsed and large commercial water pumps with the capacity to pump 1 million gallons per hour were used to pump the water trapped in the area in view as well as a larger area to the left of this scene to help with the repair efforts.
