I first visited the California State Railroad Museum as an 11-year-old back in 1986. I'll never forget the dramatic way you enter the museum. You are ushered into a theater, where you view a movie about California railroads. At the end of the film, you are shown a scene of the Governor Stanford, the first locomotive on the Central Pacific, about to enter a snowshed. Then the movie ends, and the screen rises to reveal the actual locomotive in the very scene you just viewed on screen!
