Remarks & Notes
Heading For Home Rails, literally and figuratively. Having just left the former Central Vermont main line, the southbound Vermonter picks up speed crossing over the Quaboag River. Only 16 more miles separate the train from home rails at Springfield. The Vermonter's days on these rails are numbered, as plans are afoot to return it to its original and more direct route via the Conn River Main.

The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.
