| A sight for sore eyes. As I arrived at the Nevada Northern Engine House on 5 February of 2010, I beheld a scene which I had waited 3 years to see. Twice before, I'd been to Ely and twice there had been serious problems sidelining the museum's steam locomotives. This morning, the air was full of hope, blower hiss and coal smoke. Hours before, the fires had been lit on both the 40 and the 93 and the process of bringing them to life was well under way. No supplemental lighting or flash was necessary to capture the moment. The lighting in the East Ely Engine House is about as good as it gets anywhere in steam railroading. |
