| Desert high-stepper struts her stuff! After a two-year hiatus during which the condition of her running gear was most closely studied, Nevada Northern's beautiful ten-wheeler returned to the rails for the 2010 Winter Photo Shoots. She is seen here running eastbound (railroad north) with a consist of vintage wooden box cars in a canyon near Keystone, Nevada. Although the 40 does need some major running gear work, it was recently determined that what looked like cracks in her axles during a 2008 ultrasound inspection were actually inclusions in the steel that had been there since she was built....100 years ago this year. |
