| Remarks & Notes |
| Carp is a lonely place at night, deep in the forbidding Nevada wilderness. I once spent a night here, and when there are no trains near, it's one of the darkest places I've ever been. The most interesting feature of Carp, besides being at the north end of the Huntsman Canyon, is the cantilever signal bridge that allows greater visibility for eastbounds approaching it through a curved cut. Alas, in the name of progress, the days of this signal directing trains eastward are very numbered, as signal replacement is taking place in the area. A work train sits in the hole, waiting to return to Caliente for the night, as the cantilever signal urges the eastbound Denver Z onward, as it has for years. |
