| Remarks & Notes |
| This is one of the most spectacular railroads that I have ever seen. It climbs the Andes Precordillera up to 2850 meters / 9350 ft. It is a meter gauge line, similar to most other Chilean lines. It was built in 1928 and exclusively serves the Potrerillos Codelco Copper Mine. The most spectacular section - illustrated on this picture - starts at the Montandón station at 2350 m / 7700 ft. Railfanning up there is not for the faint hearted. It requires tough hiking, good preparation and equipment so as to keep on the safe side. |
