The 2009 BNSF Christmas Train lays over in San Bernardino between the day's two runs, giving underprivileged kids a chance to ride from San Bernardino to Cajon Pass's Summit, with an on-train appearance from McGruff the crime-fighting dog, the chipmunks and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Snacks, balloon animals and a free teddy bear round out their trip in the festively decorated cars (on the inside, since that is where it counts for the kids). All the BNSF employees working these trains give of their own free time to do so - even the engine crews!
