Remarks & Notes
Built in 1910, over 100 years ago, Gary Union Station was designed by architect M. A. Lang as a two-level station between the Baltimore and Ohio (south, off screen to right) and the South Shore & Michigan Southern line, part of the New York Central System (north, visible at left), near the entrance to the U.S. Steel plant. It has been abandoned for over 50 years, yet the structure of the depot still appears to be in surprisingly good shape. Still, it sits forlornly by as over 100 trains per day (including perhaps a dozen Amtrak trains, none of which even so much as slow down) pass by on the NS to the left and CSX to the right, as well as EJ&E and South Shore Line each just yards away (see Google Satellite) .
